The Avengers successfully defied great odds and retrieved all six Infinity Stones. But, Thanos vowed to defeat the Avengers, regain control over the Infinity Stones, and destroy Earth, calling it a “stubborn, annoying little planet.”
At this crucial moment, Captain America proclaimed his iconic battle cry: “Avengers assemble!” Within moments Wakandians, Asgardians, and Guardians of the Galaxy arrived to battle Thanos and his evil army.
Fortunately, Captain America did not say, “Avengers disperse!” Disperse means to scatter. He could have said “Avengers convene!” since CONVENE and assemble are synonyms. Plus, CONVENE was a correct answer in a passage describing how several scholars of children’s literature CONVENED to discuss their favorite authors. However, “Avengers assemble!” sounds much more dramatic than “Avengers convene!”
