The Hawaiian Literary Tradition is generating a large and growing cluster of vocabulary in context questions. A previous post explained how SAT test writers have used CONTINUITY to describe the uninterrupted connections between contemporary Hawaiian authors and their literary predecessors. Many questions also emphasized that the INEXTRICABLE links between past and present novelists and poets cannot be separated.
The March 2026 SAT added ILLUMINATING to the Hawaiian Literary Cluster. A modern generation of Hawaiian authors is continuing to build on their island’s rich literary tradition by ILLUMINATING or providing insight on the experiences of the Hawaiian people.
I believe SAT test writers will continue to add new words to the Hawaiian Literary Cluster. For example, a future vocabulary in context question could use MULTIFACETED or many-sided to describe how modern Hawaiian writers are sharing their island’s many-sided heritage with readers around the world.
ILLUMINATING – shedding light on a subject by providing insight and clarity
MULTIFACETED – something with many different sides and features
