SAT test writers have become fascinated with an indigenous Mexican dance form known as Danza Azteca. Recent tests contained a dual passage AND a vocabulary in context question about how this form of dancing originated in Mexico and has spread to communities in the United States.
In the vocabulary in context question the phrase INTERMINGLE WITH suggests a blending or mixing of different elements. This accurately fits the passage’s description of how Danza Azteca is spreading and creating “a hybrid dance form.” At least a few students were tempted by the answer “CORRESPONDED TO.” This is incorrect because corresponded to means to be similar or analogous to something.
