Today’s picture features K-pop superstars PSY and Rose performing the hit song “ATP.” Their surprise duet energized a sold-out South Korean crowd that appreciated and understood the full-circle moment. PSY rocketed to global fame with his 2012 mega-hit “Gangnam Style.” He thus PRECEDED and paved the way for the popularity of BTS, Blackpink, and other K-pop groups.
PRECEDE is an easy word that mean to go before. Unfortunately, SAT test writers are very good at embedding simple words in complex passages with tempting wrong answsers. For example, modern Hawaiian authors such as Lisa Linn Kanae are PRECEDED by a rich and distinctive literary heritage. Although this seems straightforward, many students must have thought it was a suspiciously easy answer. They therefore chose the much more challenging word SUPPLANT as their answer. WRONG! SUPPLANT means to supersede or replace. It is important to remember that sometimes the easy word is the best and most precise answer!
PRECEDE – to go before
