Are we alone in the universe? The trailers for Steven Spielberg’s new movie Disclosure Day provide an UNEQUIVOCAL answer – NO! In a recent interview, Spielberg told a reporter, “I have a strong suspicion we’re not alone on Earth right now.”
I agree that we are not alone in the universe. The Milky Way galaxy contains at least 300 million earth-like or potentially habitable planets. I share the UNEQUIVOCAL view of most astronomers that life must exist on many of these planets.
Although the odds support the view that life probably exists somewhere in the Milky Way, the galaxy’s immense distances also support the UNEQUIVOCAL view that aliens have yet reach Earth. The distance across the Milky Way is a staggering 100,000 light years. To reach Earth an alien race would have to design starships that can travel faster than the speed of light.
UNEQUIVOCAL has thus far made frequent appearances as a wrong answer on SAT vocabulary in context questions.
