INCONSEQUENTIAL events are unimportant, trivial, and quickly forgotten. But is it possible for an INCONSEQUENTIAL event to become MOMENTOUS or very important?
During January of my senior year in high school an unexpected snowstorm closed school for a day. A number of my classmates spent the afternoon at a popular fast-food restaurant. Although the event seemed totally INCONSEQUENTIAL, it had a MOMENTOUS life-changing impact on Alaina. She unexpectedly met a guy who dropped by the restaurant because he was hungry. They fell in love, married, and had three children!
SAT test writers are unaware of Alaina’s story. But they are fascinated with the stories of historic French kings. Some of these rulers were INCONSEQUENTIAL or insignificant, while others had MOMENTOUS reigns that changed the course of French history. These French king questions are not designed to test your historic knowledge. They are instead designed to test your vocabulary!
INCONSEQUENTIAL – unimportant; insignificant
MOMENTOUS – very important and significant
